Do you know why my throat hurts?

Questions Rooby asked me tonight, which happens to be, unbeknownst to her, my dad’s birthday and the anniversary of his death:

“What will I do when I be all alone because my parents have died?”

“When all the parents and all the teachers die, what will the children do?”

“When parents die, who takes care of the children?”

[In response to my attempt to explain the beauty of the circle of life through the example of plants] “You mean when people die they scrumple up into the ground and it makes NEW PEOPLE??”

“What will I do when I miss you so much because you died?”

“Do you know what’s disappointing about your grandma? That we will never see her again.”

“Do you know why my throat hurts? Because I’m thinking about how much I miss her.”
